May 28, 2008 o:p> A recently published study1 in the Osteoarthritis and Cartilage journal showed that treatment of knee osteoarthritis with glucosamine for 12 months to 3 years may help prevent total joint replacement. Chris Oliver, Blackmores Director of Research based at Southern Cross University, comments “This unique study followed up on 340 patients 5 years after they had participated in trials, using either glucosamine or a placebo. The people taking glucosamine were 57 per cent less likely to require total joint replacements than the patients taking a placebo.” REFERENCES [1] Bruyere O et al.
